In 1971, Mercedes-Benz revealed the successor to its legendary SL Pagoda: the SL type R107. No more Pagoda roof, but the SL still has its hard-top, a true trademark of the SL. But even more than the car itself, the SL type R107 symbolizes for an entire generation an image of American success. All the most famous characters, real shots of American success, appear in movies or TV series driving an SL type R107: Bobby Ewing in Dallas, Richard Gere in American Gigolo, Jonathan Hart in For love of risk, and even Eddy Murphy, in the first opus of the Beverly Hills Cop. A true star on four wheels, which Mercedes-Benz fully claims.
