The Jaguar XK120 was launched to the market in 1948, marking the debut of Jaguar’s first post-war sports car. During its reign as Jaguar's flagship model, it became revered on the racetrack, winning one race after another. It also shattered speed records and earned the title of the ‘fastest production car on the market’ from the press. The XK120 is particularly cherished by enthusiasts of British automotive grandeur, due to its rich history.

In 1948, Jaguar unveiled the XK120 at the London Motor Show as an initial attempt to release their first post-war sports car. The XK120 was therefore also used to introduce the brand-new 3.4-liter XK engine, a straight-six engine that was to eventually power various Jaguar models for a whopping 35 years. You can even find a variant of it under the hood of the E-Type. Besides the engine, its aerodynamic design played a significant role in achieving unprecedented high speeds for production cars of its time. The ‘120’ in its name signifies the XK120's top speed, which was an impressive 120 miles per hour, roughly equal to 193 kilometres per hour, making it the fastest production car of its time.

Even though the wounds of the war were still fresh in people's minds, and the XK120 may have seemed somewhat out of place for its era, it sold well, thanks to its victories on the racing circuit. In 1949, the XK120 won its first race, in 1950 it was victorious in the United States and at the Mille Miglia. In 1951, a variant to the XK120 won the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The Jaguar XK120 achieved great success during its production period that spanned from 1948 to 1954. Even in later Jaguar models, there is elements to be found that were first used in the XK120. Moreover, its design is timeless and attractive, making it a truly versatile classic.
