The model

The Maserati Ghibli owes its name to the ghibli, a powerful wind from the Egyptian desert. Presented at the 1966 Turin Motor Show, it will be mass-produced and marketed from 1967 to 1973. It will be replaced by the Khamsin.

A direct competitor of the prestigious Ferrari Daytona and Lamborghini Miura, the Maserati Ghibli is "an aesthetic masterpiece, power and flexibility" recognized by many as one of the most successful Italian achievements of the 1960s.

The Maserati Ghibli has its world premiere at the Ghia stand at Turin Motor Show 66, where it shares the spotlight with the De Tomaso Mangusta. It was very well received there, both by the press and by the public.

Like the Ferrari Daytona and Lamborghini Miura, the Ghibli is, despite a generous wheelbase of 2.55 m and a length of 4.70 m, a strict two-seater berlinetta. A year after its launch, it is available in a convertible version. While 1,150 coupes will be produced, only 125 convertibles - including 25 Ghibli SS 4.9 l. - will see the light of day.
