The Jaguar Mark V is among the most elegant British luxury cars of the post-war period. The model was introduced at the 1948 London Motor Show alongside the legendary XK120. At the time, the Mark V was the flagship of Jaguar's luxury range, combining classic British elegance with important technical innovations, including independent front suspension and hydraulic brakes. It represented a significant transition between Jaguar's pre-war traditions and the more modern generation of the 1950s.
The exclusive Drophead Coupé stood out with its elegant two-door bodywork and distinctive three-position convertible roof. Of approximately 10,500 Jaguar Mark V models produced, only around 1,000 were built as Drophead Coupés, of which approximately 972 were equipped with the powerful 3,486 cc six-cylinder engine. Featuring twin S.U. carburettors, this engine originally developed approximately 125 hp, making the Mark V 3.5 DHC a comfortable and refined grand touring car.
This 1949 example has been fully restored, including a complete overhaul of its overhead-valve six-cylinder engine with twin S.U. carburettors. The original gearbox was replaced with a thoroughly rebuilt unit from a later production year. The original gearbox has been preserved and is included with the vehicle. The car was imported from New Zealand to the Netherlands, where it received Dutch registration in 1998. Extensive restoration documentation, maintenance invoices, manuals and an appraisal report accompany its history.
Today, this Jaguar is presented in an elegant grey exterior colour, complemented by a beautifully restored interior and a renewed convertible roof. According to the inspection report, the older restoration remains in very good condition, showing normal signs of use. The engine has been well maintained, while the clutch, gearbox, overdrive and suspension function properly. With its rare open bodywork, complete restoration, rebuilt mechanical components and extensive documentation, this Mark V 3.5 DHC represents a particularly attractive classic for enthusiasts and collectors.
Our Oldtimerfarm inspection team has prepared an inspection report for this vehicle.
