By the end of the seventies, the Ferrari 308 had long been a star. Especially since Magnum in Hawaii — moustache and a red Targa — tore through the palm trees, this model became part of the standard repertoire of automotive desires. But from 1980 onwards, something fundamental changed: instead of four carburettors, the V8 now breathed through Bosch K-Jetronic. Welcome to the era of fuel injection.

From 2.9 litres of displacement, the V8 officially produced 214 hp — even less in the US. That may sound modest, but in reality the 308 GTSi remained a remarkably lively sports car. 0 to 100 km/h in under seven seconds and a top speed of 240 km/h: figures that show more than Magnum was ever allowed to demonstrate within his TV set.

Visually, everything stayed the same — and that is a blessing. Pininfarina’s low wedge-shaped lines, the removable roof panel and the classic five-spoke wheels remained unchanged. Inside: leather, round instruments and the typical open gated shifter of the manual gearbox — pure Ferrari, even if the engine note sounds just a little less raw thanks to injection.

Between 1980 and 1982, only around 1,750 examples of the GTSi were built before the more powerful Quattrovalvole took the stage. Today, the GTSi is often seen as a transitional model: less aggressive than the carburettor version and less rare than its successor — but still a Ferrari 308. And that means: poster hero, dream car and style icon in one.

This 308 GTSi was originally delivered to France via Charles Pozzi. That fits perfectly with its original colour “Blu Chiaro”, as blue was traditionally the colour of French racing cars. From 1994 to 2017, the GTSi was registered in its Italian homeland, and it spent the last 15 years with one owner in Cesana. During the subsequent refresh, red was chosen decisively, while the interior was kept in its original condition. The car received servicing and a timing belt replacement in 2026, adding extra peace of mind for use. Some may regret the colour change, others firmly believe a Ferrari simply has to be red. One thing is certain: both colours suit the GTSi beautifully — and today it undeniably presents in better condition than before. A return to the rare original colour remains possible at any time. Soon it will be up to the new owner to decide.
