The 1939 BMW 335 Cabriolet by Autenrieth is one of the rarest and most prestigious German luxury automobiles of the interwar period. Designed as BMW’s flagship model, it represented the most luxurious vehicle the company produced before World War II. Developed as an Autobahn courier for senior government officials in Berlin, it balanced performance, comfort, and status at the highest level.
Only 412 examples were produced, of which around 60 were convertibles. Today, only an estimated 15 to 17 remain, making this an exceptionally rare car. This example, chassis number 192, bodied by Autenrieth, was exceptionally well preserved thanks to over fifty years of continuous family ownership. It underwent a full professional restoration and is accompanied by complete European documentation.
The powerful 3.5-litre six-cylinder engine delivers 90 hp and allows a cruising speed of approximately 136 km/h. With its extended wheelbase, improved braking system, and comfortable suspension, the 335 was ahead of its time. The elegant Autenrieth bodywork further enhances its position as BMW’s pre-war flagship.
